An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed after becoming trapped underneath a sports utility vehicle (SUV) following a crash on the North-South Expressway near Simpang Pulai last night.
The accident occurred at Kilometre 285.6 of the expressway’s southbound stretch, involving a Honda BR-V SUV and a SYM motorcycle.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call regarding the accident at about 10.50pm.
A team from the Gopeng Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene to assist with the rescue operation.
Sabarodzi said firefighters found the male motorcyclist trapped underneath the SUV when they arrived.
“The victim, a male aged 18, was trapped under the vehicle and was the motorcyclist involved in the crash,” he said in a statement.
The operation commander conducted an initial assessment before applying the SAVER rescue approach. Firefighters then used specialised equipment to carefully free the victim from underneath the vehicle.
The victim was successfully removed but was found unconscious. He was subsequently handed over to Health Ministry medical personnel who were already at the scene.
However, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
His remains were later handed over to police for further action. The rescue operation, involving five firefighters, concluded at 11.59pm.
