184 Video Game Discs Seized In Body-Strapping Smuggling Case At Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge

Date:

Customs authorities have uncovered a smuggling attempt involving 184 video game discs hidden on travellers’ bodies at the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge checkpoint, according to a recent announcement by Chinese customs officials.

The case was detected by officers from the Gongbei Customs during routine inspections at the bridge’s Zhuhai port of entry in the early hours of March 15.

At around 3am, officers noticed several passengers using the “green channel” (nothing to declare lane) behaving suspiciously, with rigid walking postures and nervous expressions as they entered the arrival hall.

Customs officers then stopped the individuals for further inspection and discovered that the suspects had wrapped video game discs tightly around their waist and abdomen using plastic film in an attempt to conceal them.

A total of 184 discs were recovered during the operation.

Authorities said the suspects admitted they were paid “carrying fees” to transport the items across the border.

The smuggling method, commonly referred to as “body wrapping”, is increasingly being used by individuals attempting to evade customs detection, despite strict enforcement measures at border checkpoints.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
