A total of 190 inmates from Miri Central Prison were transferred to Limbang Central Prison through a high-security sea operation under Ops Jerjak Samudera 2.0 early yesterday.
The transfer operation was carried out with security escorts by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritim Malaysia) through the Miri Maritime Zone Headquarters (IPMZ) to ensure the journey from Miri to Limbang was conducted safely and according to established standard operating procedures (SOP).
Miri Maritime Zone director Captain Mohd Khairol Anuar Saad said the transfer convoy was led by Deputy Director of Prison Security and Order from the Malaysian Prisons Headquarters, Mohd Nasir Yusof.
He said the convoy departed from the Miri Maritime Zone jetty at 3.15am under tight security supervision to ensure the entire operation proceeded smoothly and in an organised manner.
Several key assets were deployed by Maritim Malaysia to support the operation, including KM Tegas, Bot Kilat 41 and Bot Kilat 42 from IPMZ Miri, as well as Bot Petir 10 from IPMZ Bintulu to escort the convoy throughout the sea route.
Mohd Khairol said the operation also received support from the Marine Police Force (PPM) through the involvement of Bot RH66 to strengthen security measures and prevent any threats or untoward incidents during the transfer.
He added that close coordination between all agencies involved ensured the safety of the operation was maintained at an optimal level while allowing the transfer process to be completed according to the required SOP.
According to him, transporting inmates through sea routes requires detailed planning and strong coordination between agencies due to the high-security risks involved and the need for continuous readiness from personnel and assets throughout the journey.
He said Ops Jerjak Samudera 2.0 demonstrated the effectiveness of strategic cooperation between Maritim Malaysia, the Prisons Department and PPM in managing maritime security operations involving high-risk transfers.
Mohd Khairol added that Maritim Malaysia remains committed to strengthening the readiness of its personnel and assets while supporting national security operations to ensure maritime safety, security and sovereignty remain protected.
