A 23-year-old man was found dead by the roadside near the airport traffic light junction on Friday morning, with authorities still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
The victim, a Malay man from Kampung Merdang Tengah, was discovered lying unconscious near a road construction area along the route towards the airport, shortly after the traffic lights at the airport junction.
At around 7am, a member of the public contacted the 999 emergency hotline after spotting the man motionless by the roadside.
An ambulance from the Emergency Department of Kuching General Hospital was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, medical personnel conducted an examination and confirmed that the victim had already died.
Initial observations raised questions over the cause of death, as no visible injuries were found on the victim’s body.
Authorities also noted that the motorcycle believed to belong to the deceased showed no signs of collision or major damage, making it unclear whether the incident was the result of a traffic accident or other causes.
Police patrol officers later arrived at the scene to assess the situation and secure the area.
After confirming the death, traffic police and officers from the Batu Tiga Police Station were notified and launched an investigation to determine what led to the victim’s death.
The body was subsequently transported to the mortuary at Kuching General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Investigators are awaiting the results of the autopsy to establish the exact cause of death and determine the direction of further investigations.
Police have not ruled out any possibilities and are continuing inquiries into the incident.
