Date:

A 52-year-old man was killed after the four-wheel drive vehicle he was driving skidded and overturned at Jalan Dabata in Tambunan around midnight on Thursday.

Keningau district police chief Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai said the victim was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.

He said initial investigations showed the victim was driving a pickup truck from Tambunan towards his home in Kampung Rompon.

“Upon reaching the location, which is a hilly bend, the vehicle is believed to have lost control before veering off and overturning on the left side of the road,” he said.

The victim suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Tambunan Hospital.

Checks at the scene also found the vehicle badly damaged, including a detached front left tyre as well as damage to the bonnet, bumper and front fender.

The victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit at Keningau Hospital for post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

Police said investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
