Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a robbery at a home in Teluk Intan in April that ended with the death of a 69-year-old man.
Hilir Perak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Chua Kok Lian said the local suspect was arrested in Klang, Selangor, on Aug 26 following an operation to track down individuals wanted in connection with the case.
He said the latest arrest was part of continued efforts by police to identify and bring everyone believed to have been involved in the fatal robbery to justice.
“Previously, four accomplices of the suspect were arrested and charged in court on May 7 under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Chua said investigators had since completed further investigations and submitted the investigation papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
Following the prosecutor’s instructions, the latest suspect is also expected to face a charge under the same provisions.
The suspect remains under remand and is scheduled to be brought before the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court today to face the charge.
Police have pledged to continue intensifying operations against those involved in criminal activities, while members of the public have been urged to provide information that could assist investigations and help maintain security in the Hilir Perak district.
The fatal incident occurred on April 17 at the victim’s home in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan.
Chua previously said the victim was believed to have died after suffering slash wounds during the incident, which took place at around 6am.
The victim’s wife was reportedly in the porch preparing for prayers when three men climbed over the walls and forced their way into the house.
The victim was seriously injured after allegedly being slashed with a sharp weapon, believed to be a machete, on his right hand and left palm.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
