A dog allegedly abandoned after its owner moved away has continued returning to its former home every day, waiting outside the front door in the hope that its owner will come back.
The dog’s story, shared in a Facebook post, touched the hearts of netizens, with many also thanking an uncle who stepped in to help the animal.
According to the post, the dog refused to go downstairs when called and instead chose to stay outside the unit.
“It wanted to wait outside the front door of its home. It was waiting for its owner,” the post read.
The writer described the dog as loyal and compared its behaviour to Hachiko, the famous Japanese dog known for waiting for its owner.
One commenter said the incident took place in Seri Kembangan, citing the original post.
However, the situation had also become a concern for residents as the dog, while not aggressive, had reportedly been urinating and defecating around the area.
An uncle eventually brought the dog downstairs and placed it temporarily in a cage while arrangements were made for someone to take it in. A photo accompanying the post showed the man with the brown-and-white dog on a staircase.
The post said someone had already expressed willingness to care for the dog, although it did not confirm whether the animal had since been taken to a new home.
The writer also questioned why anyone would leave a pet behind simply because they were moving house, urging owners who could no longer care for their animals to find someone else willing to take responsibility.
“If you keep a dog, care for it until it dies. Otherwise, let someone else continue caring for it. Don’t just leave it behind,” he wrote.
Several netizens expressed sadness over the dog’s situation and thanked the uncle for stepping in.
“Thanks, uncle, for helping the dog,” one commenter wrote.
Another urged people to provide the dog with food and water and take it for short walks, while expressing concern over how a former pet would cope if left to survive on the streets.
Others criticised pet owners who abandon their animals, saying they should take responsibility rather than leave others to deal with the consequences.
