ABX Express says it will strengthen its internal procedures after an unauthorised individual was seen using one of the company’s branded delivery boxes while parking in a designated Persons with Disabilities (OKU) bay.
In a statement on Tuesday, the courier company said an internal investigation found that the individual was not an ABX Express employee or delivery rider and had not been associated with the company since 2020.
The clarification came after a Facebook post on July 26 alleged that a man had parked a motorcycle fitted with an ABX Express-branded delivery box in an OKU parking bay outside an eatery in Kelana Jaya.
ABX Express explained that the delivery box had not been recovered after the individual’s departure from the company in 2020, allowing it to be retained and used without authorisation.
“While the delivery box was retained and used without authorisation, we acknowledge this lapse in our asset recovery process,” the company said.
It added that it is reviewing and strengthening its asset recovery procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The company stressed that it has zero tolerance for the misuse of designated OKU parking facilities and the unauthorised use of its branded assets, saying the individual’s actions do not reflect the company’s values or standards.
ABX Express also reaffirmed its respect for the OKU community and emphasised the importance of keeping designated parking spaces accessible to those who genuinely need them.
The Facebook post claimed the motorcycle owner refused to move his vehicle after being approached by an elderly couple, both of whom were persons with disabilities, who had requested access to the reserved parking bay.
Photos shared online showed a motorcycle fitted with an ABX Express delivery box parked in the designated OKU space outside the restaurant, sparking widespread criticism on social media.
Many netizens questioned the effectiveness of enforcement, while others condemned the individual’s actions and apparent lack of accountability.
