A father of a student who allegedly chased his schoolmates while holding a paper cutter at a secondary school in Alor Gajah has lodged a police report, claiming that his son was a victim of bullying.
Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said the 45-year-old factory worker lodged the report at 6.24pm yesterday in an effort to defend his 13-year-old son.
He said the father claimed his son had been bullied by three schoolmates, which allegedly caused the teenager to lose control during an incident at about 2.50pm last Thursday.
“Following the police report, investigations have been opened under Section 507B of the Penal Code involving bullying offences.
“The investigation will continue thoroughly before the investigation papers are referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions,” he said when met at the Alor Gajah district police headquarters yesterday.
Ahmad said the parents of the three students who were allegedly chased by the teenager, involving two 14-year-olds and another aged 13, were also expected to lodge police reports.
However, police had yet to receive any reports from the families as of yesterday evening.
The incident occurred last Thursday when a co-curricular activity at a secondary school in Alor Gajah turned chaotic after the student allegedly pursued three schoolmates while carrying a knife.
The student, who is reportedly receiving treatment at the Psychiatry and Mental Health Department of Melaka Hospital, was said to have chased the students from the school hall area towards a nearby surau before the situation was brought under control.
