Drone Attack Hits Oman As Iran-US Tensions Escalate

Date:

A drone attack struck the Musandam area in Oman on Sunday, according to the country’s official news agency, following Iran’s claim that it had targeted United States (US) military bases in the region.

The Oman News Agency, citing security sources, said the country strongly condemned the attack and described the incident as unacceptable.

Authorities in Muscat are taking all necessary measures to address the situation and ensure the safety and security of the country, the agency reported.

Meanwhile, sirens were activated three times in Bahrain, with the Ministry of Interior urging residents to move to the nearest safe locations as a precaution.

Earlier, Tehran claimed it had launched attacks on US military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Oman. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) also said it had intercepted and responded to Iranian missile and drone attacks.

The latest incident came after the US carried out a third round of strikes targeting radar sites, missile facilities and drone locations across southern Iran.

The escalation followed Iran’s reported attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz and its announcement that the strategic waterway would be closed until further notice. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said one crew member was missing following the incident.
