A social media user has voiced frustration over people continuing to throw rubbish into rivers and drains, questioning why waterways are still being treated as dumping grounds.
The complaint was shared on Threads by user @Jayj4yqt, who expressed disbelief that some individuals would dispose of their waste in drainage systems despite the environmental consequences.
The post drew mixed reactions from netizens, many of whom condemned the behaviour as irresponsible and raised concerns about its impact on the cleanliness of the surroundings.
One commenter, tree_fnh, suggested that some of the rubbish could be linked to items discarded as part of traditional rituals, but stressed that plastic waste should never be left behind.
“Maybe it was thrown away as part of a ritual. Fruits and other offerings are one thing, but people should take the plastic home with them,” the user commented.
Another user urged the public to report illegal dumping to local authorities so those responsible could face penalties, including community service.
“Report it to the municipal council. Let them be fined, made to do community service and clean toilets,” the commenter wrote.
A further comment linked the irresponsible disposal of rubbish to recurring floods, arguing that clogged drains, ditches and rivers could worsen the problem.
“When floods happen, everyone gets blamed except ourselves. Yet this is exactly what causes drains, ditches and rivers to become clogged!” the user said.
