A 35-year-old private-hire driver has died after allegedly being stabbed several times by a food vendor following a dispute over an extra serving of chickpea curry, or chole, at a roadside stall in Nihal Vihar, Delhi, India.
The victim, identified as Sandeep, died at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh on Tuesday, two days after the attack near Jwalapuri Nala on Sunday.
According to The Times of India, citing news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), the incident began when Sandeep asked for an additional serving of choley while ordering the traditional Indian dish chole bhature.
The request allegedly sparked an argument with the vendor, which escalated into a physical altercation before Sandeep was repeatedly stabbed.
Medical reports revealed that the victim sustained three stab wounds to the left side of his abdomen, three to his left arm and another injury to his wrist.
Sandeep was initially taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital on the night of Oct 25 before being transferred to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital for further treatment.
However, he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday after battling for his life for two days.
The victim’s father, Bijender Singh, claimed that his son had merely asked for a little extra food before the disagreement with the vendor turned violent.
