A woman has alleged that she was dismissed from her job at a popular squishy toy shop in SS15, Subang Jaya, after asking for time off to perform her prayers.
The woman, who shared her experience on Threads under the username @annarosee07, claimed that her request for a prayer break had resulted in her losing her job.
Her post had attracted more than 18,000 likes at the time of writing, with many users urging her to report the matter while others shared similar experiences.
In her post, she described the workplace as a “viral squishy shop” in SS15 and expressed disbelief over the alleged dismissal.
“Guys, I just got fired just because I asked for a ‘prayer break’. This is at that viral squishy shop in SS15,” she wrote.
However, the screenshots she shared did not provide further details about the exchange that allegedly led to her dismissal or the employer’s explanation.
In a follow-up post, the woman also claimed that another employee had resigned on the same day she started working at the shop, allegedly because they could not cope with the pressure.
“By the way, guys, on my first day at work, one staff member resigned because they couldn’t take the pressure. And today, they fired me, so I don’t know anymore,” she wrote.
She did not disclose how long she had worked at the shop before the alleged dismissal.
The incident prompted several social media users to advise her to lodge a complaint with the Labour Department, while others recounted similar experiences at their former workplaces.
One commenter said the experience had made them ask about prayer arrangements during every job interview.
Another claimed they had been dismissed from a job shortly after completing their SPM examinations for going to a surau to pray, adding that the shop had since closed down.
The allegations remain based on the woman’s account on Threads. The screenshots shared did not include a response from the shop or independently establish the circumstances surrounding her alleged dismissal.
