A man’s attempt to evade a police roadblock ended in a dramatic crash after the BMW he was driving veered off the road and slammed into a water tank along Kilometre 23 of Jalan Lipis-Merapoh, near Padang Tengku, on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 4.30pm, with the 45-year-old driver believed to have been transporting five Myanmar nationals from Kelantan to Kuala Lumpur.
Lipis District Police Chief Superintendent Ismail Man said preliminary investigations found that the driver accelerated and refused to stop when ordered to do so at a police roadblock. After travelling about five kilometres from the checkpoint, the vehicle lost control before crashing into a water tank located in front of a roadside eatery.
The driver and two female Myanmar passengers sustained injuries in the crash and were immediately arrested by police. Meanwhile, three other Myanmar nationals—two men and one woman—managed to flee the scene on foot and remain the subject of an ongoing police search.
Further checks revealed that the two Myanmar women who were detained did not possess valid travel documents. The case highlights the continued enforcement efforts by authorities against immigration-related offences and attempts to evade law enforcement.
Police are investigating the incident under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 55E and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Members of the public with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the three Myanmar nationals still on the run are urged to come forward to assist the investigation.
