Body Of Missing Worker Found After Saratok Boat Tragedy — Three Still Missing

Date:

One of four construction workers who went missing after their boat capsized in Sungai Krian, Saratok, has been found drowned today.

Saratok District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mathew Manggie, said the body of the victim, identified as 24-year-old Mohamad Asfar Sulaiman, was discovered floating by members of the public at about 9.37am.

He said Mohamad Asfar, who had been operating the boat’s engine, was found about 50 metres from the search and rescue (SAR) operations control post.

“Family members have confirmed the victim’s identity and the body has been sent to the Saratok Hospital forensic unit for a post-mortem,” he added.

The incident occurred at around 6.22pm on 26 September when a boat carrying 10 construction workers from the Sungai Krian Bridge project suddenly capsized in mid-river, roughly 150 metres from the Kaba ferry jetty.

Six workers managed to save themselves, while four were initially reported missing.

Following today’s discovery, SAR efforts are now focused on locating the remaining three missing workers, all of whom are Indonesian nationals.

The ongoing operation involves police, firefighters, the Civil Defence Force and local residents.
