Bought a Myvi Cash, Got Shamed by Mom for Not Getting a Vellfire!

Date:

Not everyone dreams of owning a luxury car—some prefer a simpler life without debt or hefty monthly commitments. This was the mindset of a woman who bought a Perodua Myvi outright with cash, only for her choice to be compared to her brother’s Toyota Vellfire, which he purchased through a nine-year bank loan.

Even more disheartening, her mother seemed unable to understand her debt-free principle, openly questioning her decision to buy a Myvi.

The woman shared, “I bought the Myvi cash. My brother got a reconditioned Vellfire on a nine-year loan. My mom said, ‘Just a Myvi? Look at your brother—big, grand, and luxurious. You only got a Myvi?’”

The situation also upset her husband, even though both of them were grateful to own a car without carrying a financial burden.

“To be honest, even my husband felt a bit hurt by my mother’s attitude. It felt like we were being looked down upon. I needed words of encouragement,” she said.

She decided to stay silent, recalling advice from her ustazah to avoid speaking harshly or hurting her mother’s feelings. “In my heart I was thinking, it’s cash, mom. But who am I to say it? It stung a little, but my ustazah always said, as long as you can swallow it, just swallow it,” she explained.

Netizens in the comments section were quick to show support, praising her decision to buy a car without debt and offering tips on how to maintain harmony with her mother.

One commenter wrote, “Just tell her you can’t afford anything else yet. My prayer is that one day you can buy a Vellfire. Cash like your Myvi is perfectly fine. Being debt-free is far better. Let her words go in one ear and out the other. What matters is peace of mind. Congratulations on spending within your means!”

The post serves as a reminder that financial choices are personal, and staying debt-free can be more valuable than keeping up appearances with luxury purchases.
