A 12-year-old boy was killed in a tragic road accident after being hit by a lorry while crossing a road in Kampung Kesapang, Kota Belud, on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Muzamir Mahadir, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 5.40pm, according to police.
Kota Belud District Police Chief Superintendent Shahrudin Mat Husain said preliminary investigations found that the boy had suddenly run across the road and was first grazed by a Perodua Bezza before falling onto the roadway.
He said the impact caused the child to fall directly onto the road surface, where a lorry travelling behind the car was unable to stop in time and struck him.
Police confirmed that the boy died at the scene due to severe injuries sustained in the collision. His body was later sent to the Forensic Unit at Kota Belud Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Witnesses said the child had just returned from a fishing trip and was reportedly in a happy mood after catching fish, intending to show them to his family before the incident occurred.
The tragic accident has left the local community in shock as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
