A 27-year-old Chinese tourist who was filmed causing a disturbance at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 yesterday has been admitted to the psychiatric ward at Kajang Hospital for treatment.
KLIA police chief Ravi Munusamy said the woman was in the international departure hall at about 1.19pm when she allegedly began shouting in Mandarin and disturbing other passengers by running, singing and dancing.
“Terminal security personnel who arrived at the scene to calm her down brought her to the Terminal 1 police station for further action,” he said in a statement today.
Ravi said preliminary investigations found that the woman had arrived in Malaysia with a friend on August 6 and was scheduled to return to China on August 18.
She was subsequently taken to Kajang Hospital for further treatment, while the Chinese embassy was also informed about the incident.
“The suspect is in stable condition and is still receiving treatment at the hospital,” Ravi said.
He added that the woman was suspected of experiencing mental health difficulties and was not believed to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
The incident drew attention online after a video showing the woman behaving erratically at the airport went viral on social media.
Ravi reminded members of the public to avoid behaviour that could cause alarm or disrupt public order, particularly at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2.
