Court Orders Mental Assessment For Man Over Threats And Insults On Social Media

Date:

A 35-year-old man has pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court today to five charges involving the creation and dissemination of offensive and threatening content directed at members of the Terengganu royal family via the social media platform X.

The accused, Azman Hakim Hassanuddin, entered his plea after all charges were read before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman. The offences allegedly took place on 19 February, involving multiple postings made through his personal account.

According to the charges, Azman Hakim was accused of publishing four separate posts at different times in the afternoon which were deemed grossly offensive and intended to provoke emotional distress.

He also faced a fifth charge for allegedly issuing a threatening communication with the intent to intimidate an individual. The postings were said to have been made between 2.25pm and 4.29pm on the same day.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab requested that the accused be referred to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation to determine his mental fitness to stand trial. The court granted the application.

The judge subsequently ordered Azman Hakim to be sent to a psychiatric facility for assessment and remanded without bail until the psychiatric report is completed.

The case has been set for mention on 26 August pending the submission of the medical evaluation report regarding the accused’s mental condition.
