One Killed, Five Injured After Shooting At Rave Party In Switzerland

Date:

One person was killed and at least five others injured, some seriously, following a shooting in northern Switzerland, police said on Sunday.

Aargau cantonal police said a manhunt was underway for the suspected shooter and urged members of the public to provide any photographs or video footage that could help investigators establish what happened.

The shooting reportedly took place at a rave party at a hippodrome, according to Swiss tabloid Blick. Footage published by the outlet appeared to show several gunshots being fired in succession.

Police said large parts of Aarau had been cordoned off as officers worked to secure the area and investigate the incident.

Authorities have also increased their police presence beyond the town as a precaution while the search for the suspect continues.

At least five people were injured in the shooting, with some reported to be in serious condition. Further details about the victims have not yet been released.

The incident has drawn attention in Switzerland, where gun ownership is relatively widespread compared with many other European countries, despite violent shootings remaining uncommon.

Switzerland introduced tighter firearms control measures in 2019 following changes to its gun laws, but firearms remain a familiar part of civilian life in the country.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or recorded footage to come forward as investigations and the manhunt continue.
