A total of 25 individuals, including 12 foreigners, were detained during an integrated operation targeting begging activities around Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
The operation, carried out by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in collaboration with the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), National Registration Department (JPN), Social Welfare Department (JKM) and National Security Council (MKN), covered areas including Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Alor and Leboh Pudu.
DBKL said the operation began at 8pm and enforcement action was taken against all 25 individuals identified during the inspection.
Initial checks found that those detained comprised 13 Malaysians and 12 foreigners.
“From the total number, five individuals were handed over to relevant agencies for further action, with two referred to JIM and three to JKM,” DBKL said in a statement on Friday.
The city council said the operation was part of continuous efforts to curb begging activities, particularly in busy areas of the capital that attract large crowds.
DBKL added that it will continue strengthening cooperation with related agencies to ensure public order, safety and the well-being of city residents remain protected.
