A woman has shared how a dinner outing with her husband turned into a painful experience after he scolded her for adding a RM5 mushroom soup to their order.
Taking to social media to recount the incident, the woman said her husband’s reaction left her hurt and embarrassed, turning what should have been an ordinary meal into a distressing memory.
According to mStar, the couple were having dinner at a restaurant when she decided to order the additional soup.
However, when the food arrived, her husband questioned her decision and made a remark about his income.
“What did you order this for? Do you think your husband earns thousands (of Ringgit)?” she recalled him saying.
The woman said she held back her tears at the time, adding that the incident reinforced her determination not to depend financially on her husband.
“It was only RM5, but I can already see how terribly my husband might treat me if I stop working,” she said.
Her account drew sympathy from netizens, many of whom criticised the husband’s reaction over such a small purchase.
One commenter who identified himself as a husband acknowledged that financial pressure could be difficult, but said it did not justify speaking harshly to one’s spouse.
Another netizen said couples should be able to discuss financial concerns respectfully, adding that a wife deserves not only financial support but also appreciation and consideration for her feelings.
