A man accused of assaulting his former wife in an incident that was captured on video and widely shared on social media has been arrested by police.
Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said authorities received a report regarding the incident at 2.51pm on June 21.
Preliminary investigations found that the alleged assault took place at a public parking area outside the Bandar Baru Bangi Police Station.
Following the report, police also came across a video circulating on the social media platform Threads, which is believed to have recorded the incident. The footage quickly gained attention online, prompting widespread discussion among netizens.
Acting on information gathered and the findings of their investigation, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kajang District Police Headquarters arrested a local man in his 20s at approximately 6.20pm on June 22.
According to Naazron, the suspect works as an e-hailing driver and is believed to be the victim’s former husband. Cases involving domestic disputes often attract public concern, particularly when incidents are caught on camera and shared across social media platforms.
Police said the suspect will be brought before the Bandar Baru Bangi Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to obtain a remand order to facilitate further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
Members of the public with information related to the incident have been urged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Afiq Rifdi Mohd Ami, at 011-29667474 to assist with the investigation.
