The General Operations Force (GOF) thwarted an attempt to smuggle a prized rooster and dozens of football jerseys into Thailand through an illegal jetty here on Wednesday night.
However, no arrests were made during the operation carried out at about 7pm under Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan.
GOF Southeast Brigade commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the seizure was made at the illegal ‘Ayam’ jetty by a team from the Ninth Battalion.
He said enforcement personnel spotted a man unloading a brown cardboard box and a transparent plastic bundle onto the Golok riverbank.
“When the suspect realised the presence of GOF personnel, he escaped by boat towards Thailand and managed to get away,” he said.
A search conducted at the scene found a rooster kept inside a cardboard box labelled with Thai writing, along with 63 football jerseys packed in a transparent plastic bundle.
Ahmad Radzi said officers remained at the location for about 30 minutes, but no individual came forward to claim the items.
The total value of the seized goods was estimated at RM14,835, comprising the rooster worth RM12,000 and the football jerseys valued at RM2,835.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, while the seized items have been handed over to the Customs Department for further action.
