Express Bus Driver Sacked After Viral Lap-Sitting Incident On Moving Bus

Date:

An express bus driver seen in a viral social media video allegedly operating a moving bus with a woman sitting on his lap has been terminated with immediate effect by his employer.

Sri Maju Group confirmed in a Facebook statement that the driver featured in the footage is its employee, adding that the incident occurred on a journey from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) to Larkin, Johor Bahru, on Wednesday.

The company described the behaviour as “highly disappointing, alarming and unacceptable,” stressing that it had taken swift action following the incident.

It said a police report has been lodged against the driver, and the matter has also been referred to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) for further investigation.

The company added that it is fully cooperating with authorities and has begun reviewing its onboard monitoring systems, including CCTV installations for both drivers and passengers.

Sri Maju Group also issued an unconditional apology to passengers and the public, stating that safety and comfort remain its top priority.

“Such behaviour is a serious violation of our standard operating procedures and professional code of conduct,” the company said.

It further noted that despite existing monitoring measures, the incident highlights the need for stricter enforcement and enhanced surveillance across its fleet.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the incident does not recur and said it will continue working closely with authorities.

The case came to light after the Road Transport Department (JPJ) confirmed it had identified the company and driver involved, and had called the driver in for questioning.
