A factory worker in Ayer Keroh has been fined RM2,800 by the Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to possessing and distributing an obscene video involving her former husband and another woman.
The 25-year-old accused was sentenced after she admitted to the offence before Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin yesterday.
She was charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code for possessing obscene material, involving videos and images stored on an iPhone 12 Pro Max at Jalan Ayer Keroh Lama in Melaka Tengah on January 11.
Court proceedings heard that the complainant initially received the video through her sister last December before investigations traced the material back to a phone number believed to belong to the accused.
The disturbing recording allegedly showed the complainant in a sexual act with the accused’s former husband, with authorities confirming that it was made without her knowledge or consent.
Further investigations revealed that the video was also circulated to several members of the complainant’s family, prompting her to lodge a police report over the incident.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nur Alia Safri said the offence was serious as it involved the distribution of obscene content that violated the victim’s dignity and privacy.
The accused, who was unrepresented, appealed for leniency, saying she was emotionally distressed following a miscarriage and had financial responsibilities towards her parents.
