Fake RM366,000 Aesthetic Device Seized In Raid On Kuala Lumpur Clinic

Date:

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has seized a suspected counterfeit high-tech skin therapy machine and 25 transducers during a raid on an aesthetic clinic in the capital.

The device is believed to be an imitation of the Ultherapy PRIME® system, a premium non-invasive aesthetic treatment platform, with an authentic unit valued at approximately RM366,000.

The enforcement operation was carried out by KPDN’s Enforcement Division following an investigation triggered by a complaint received by Merz Aesthetics from a patient in August last year regarding Ultherapy PRIME® treatments allegedly offered by the clinic.

According to Merz Aesthetics, checks revealed that the clinic had never purchased an authentic Ultherapy PRIME® device from Ulthera Inc., its affiliated company, or any authorised distributor in Malaysia.

Further investigations also found that the clinic’s Instagram account claimed it was a branch of a hospital based in Shanghai, China.

“Following the complaint, a comprehensive investigation was launched around October 2025 before the enforcement operation was conducted,” the company said.

“Inspections confirmed that the clinic was using a counterfeit Ultherapy PRIME® device.”

Ultherapy PRIME® is a non-invasive treatment that uses micro-focused ultrasound technology with real-time visualisation, allowing doctors to view the skin’s layers and precisely deliver energy to targeted areas.

The technology is designed to help lift and tighten the skin by stimulating collagen production without the need for surgery or extended recovery periods.

Merz Aesthetics warned that the use of counterfeit or unauthorised devices could pose significant risks to patient safety while also affecting treatment effectiveness and expected clinical outcomes.

The company thanked KPDN for its swift action in combating counterfeit medical and aesthetic devices and protecting consumer interests.

Members of the public have been advised to seek treatment only from certified providers capable of producing a valid Ultherapy PRIME® Certificate of Authenticity.

Patients are also encouraged to verify authorised clinics through the official Ultherapy PRIME® certification platform before undergoing treatment.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
