Family Of Three Killed After Car Allegedly Driven By Drug-Impaired Driver Crashes Into Motorcycle

Date:

A family of three was killed after their motorcycle was struck by a Perodua Aruz allegedly driven by a man under the influence of drugs along Jalan Batu 17, Hulu Langat, on Wednesday morning.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the crash occurred at about 7.56am and claimed the lives of a 34-year-old mechanic, his 32-year-old wife, and their three-year-old son.

All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations found that the family was travelling from their home in Batu 18, Hulu Langat, to Nanding when the accident occurred.

Police believe the Perodua Aruz, driven by a 42-year-old local man, entered the motorcycle’s lane before colliding with the family, throwing all three victims from the bike.

Naazron said checks revealed the suspect has two previous drug-related records, while a urine screening tested positive for methamphetamine.

The driver has been arrested and is expected to be brought before the Kajang Magistrate’s Court at 9am on Thursday to obtain a remand order.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing death or serious injury, as well as Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer, Inspector Mohd Raziman Rasid, at 019-4565502 to assist in the investigation.

Naazron also reminded all road users to drive responsibly, obey traffic laws, and remain vigilant to help ensure the safety of everyone on the road.
