Police have dismantled a methamphetamine trafficking syndicate supplying both the local and international markets, seizing drugs worth an estimated RM21.3 million during a series of operations carried out from last Saturday until Tuesday.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said officers seized 410 plastic packages containing 425.3kg of methamphetamine during the operation.
Among those arrested was a police officer in his 30s, who has been suspended from duty for the past two years and is believed to be the mastermind behind the syndicate.
The officer was detained together with five local men aged between 39 and 46 during raids in Cheras.
Hussein said investigations indicate the syndicate had been active since early this year, with members from Kelantan allegedly using terrace houses around the Klang Valley as storage facilities before distributing the drugs.
Checks also revealed the suspended officer has one previous drug-related record. All six suspects have been remanded until Friday to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Police said they have identified other members of the syndicate and will continue taking aggressive action to dismantle the remaining network.
In a separate case, Hussein said the man who was rescued in a recent RM7 million kidnapping-for-ransom case in Selangor is believed to have been directly involved in a local drug trafficking syndicate.
The 44-year-old man, who is being detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 (LLPK), is now being investigated to identify other individuals linked to the alleged drug network.
On July 19, police rescued the man and arrested six suspects aged between 30 and 46 who were allegedly demanding RM7 million in ransom.
Following further investigations, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar announced on July 22 that the victim had been detained under the LLPK after investigators uncovered evidence linking the kidnapping case to drug trafficking activities.
