Three members of a Rohingya family were killed after the house they were staying in at Jalan Maju 4, Taman Serai Maju, Bagan Serai, caught fire early this morning.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Sayani Saidon said its operations centre received an emergency call at 5.17am, prompting firefighters from Bagan Serai and Kuala Kurau fire stations, together with the Bagan Serai Volunteer Fire Brigade, to be deployed.
The first fire engine arrived at the scene at about 5.30am and found the house, which was believed to have suffered around 70 per cent damage, engulfed in flames. Seven foreign nationals were staying in the two-bedroom house.
The deceased were identified as Mohd Yunus Nor Ali, 27, and his two sons, Muhammad Woheed, six, and Mohamad Aheed, three. Their bodies were later discovered inside the first bedroom, which was badly affected by the fire.
Sayani said the victims’ 24-year-old wife and mother, Saniya Jahan Juma Abul Kasim, was found outside the house with burns to her hands and legs. She told firefighters that her husband and two children were still trapped inside the premises.
The injured woman was given initial treatment before being taken to hospital, while firefighters immediately began searching the burning house for the trapped victims.
The three victims were subsequently found inside the first bedroom. A medical officer from the Health Ministry later confirmed that all three had died at the scene.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 6.20am, with the operation fully concluded at 7.35am. The victims were handed over to the police for further action.
A six-member Fire Forensics team from the Perak Fire Investigation Division also arrived to examine the scene. Preliminary findings indicated that the fire originated inside the first bedroom where the victims were found.
However, Sayani said the exact cause of the fire and the total value of losses remained under investigation. A detailed forensic examination is being carried out to determine how the deadly blaze started.
