A foreign man was charged in the Sessions Court on Friday with allegedly raping a 61-year-old woman during a break-in at her home in March.
The accused, Alimanja Arioski, 19, was alleged to have committed the offence at a house in Batu 7 at approximately 1.30am on March 21.
According to the charge, the accused allegedly entered the victim’s residence, threatened the elderly woman, sexually assaulted her and stole several of her belongings before fleeing the scene.
He was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code.
No plea was recorded from the accused during the proceedings.
Sessions Court Judge Roslinda Razali fixed July 27 for the next mention of the case pending the submission of the victim’s medical report.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Jasmin Walter, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel.
The court was also informed that the accused had appeared before the same court a day earlier, where he was convicted of robbery and causing injury to the same victim in connection with the incident.
For that offence, Roslinda sentenced him to 14 years’ imprisonment and eight strokes of the cane.
The court ordered the sentence to take effect from the date of his arrest on March 21.
In addition, the judge directed that the accused be referred to the Immigration Department upon completion of his prison sentence.
The earlier conviction was handed down under Section 394 of the Penal Code for robbery causing hurt.
The rape case is now awaiting further proceedings while authorities complete the necessary medical and investigative reports.
