Former religious affairs minister Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom today claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to three charges of misappropriating more than RM860.3 million belonging to Tabung Haji (TH).
Jamil, who pleaded not guilty to all three charges, is accused of dishonestly causing TH to dispose of the funds to Al-Rawda Real Estate Development And Projects Management Co Ltd between April 3, 2015 and Aug 17, 2017.
The alleged offences were committed at the office of the religious affairs minister in Putrajaya.
The first charge involves RM42,942,074, equivalent to 44.17 million Saudi riyal, which Jamil allegedly caused TH to dispose of to Al-Rawda on April 3, 2015.
For the second charge, he is accused of dishonestly causing TH to dispose of RM288,172,134.64, equivalent to more than 250 million Saudi riyal, to the company on Dec 14, 2016.
The third charge involves RM529,194,561.87, equivalent to more than 471 million Saudi riyal, which he allegedly caused TH to dispose of to Al-Rawda on Aug 17, 2017.
All three charges were framed under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries a fine and imprisonment of between six months and five years upon conviction.
Judge Rosli Ahmad granted Jamil bail of RM300,000 with one surety and ordered him to surrender his passport to the court pending disposal of the case.
The court fixed Nov 5 for case management.
Jamil was represented by lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, while deputy public prosecutor Farah Ezlin Yusof Khan appeared for the prosecution.
