Four Dead After Ford Ranger Crashes Into Parked Trailer On North-South Expressway

Date:

A nine-month-old baby was among four people killed after a Ford Ranger allegedly crashed into the rear of a parked trailer along the North-South Expressway near Pagoh on Saturday.

The accident occurred at about 5.19pm at KM107 of the southbound expressway and involved three vehicles — a Ford Ranger, a Toyota Vios and a Scania trailer truck.

Pagoh Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Hafiz Mohd Shahid said the Ford Ranger was believed to have collided with the trailer parked by the roadside.

Six people were travelling in the Ford Ranger. Four were pronounced dead, while the other two were injured.

The deceased comprised two elderly women, a five-year-old girl and the nine-month-old baby.

One man in his 40s was also injured, while another victim had been taken to hospital by Health Ministry personnel before firefighters arrived.

The crash also involved a Toyota Vios carrying a 70-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both of whom were reported injured.

Meanwhile, the driver of the parked Scania trailer was unharmed.

Mohd Hafiz said members of the public had removed all the victims from the vehicles before firefighters arrived, and no one was trapped.

Firefighters provided initial treatment to the injured and carried out clean-up work at the scene.

The bodies of the deceased were subsequently handed over to the police for further action.

The operation ended at 6.11pm.
