Four people lost their lives in a devastating five-vehicle collision along Jalan Johor Bahru-Ayer Hitam near Simpang Renggam Prison on Monday afternoon.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1.16pm and involved a Toyota Vios, Perodua Alza, Proton Wira, Mercedes E240 and a BMW.
Authorities identified the victims as Toyota Vios driver Mohd Aiman Mohd Rashid, 36, Nur Airish Syifa Sidek, 10, Nor Azlina Abd. Latif, 33, and Semek Mat Soh, 73.
All four victims were travelling in the Toyota Vios when the collision occurred.
Renggam Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Ismail Mamat said emergency services received a distress call at 1.16pm and immediately dispatched a fire engine and five personnel to the scene.
The rescue team arrived about nine minutes later and found several victims trapped inside the severely damaged Toyota Vios.
Firefighters launched an emergency rescue operation and used specialised extrication equipment to free those trapped in the wreckage.
According to Ismail, three of the victims were found dead inside the Toyota Vios.
A fourth victim, an elderly woman, was reportedly thrown from the vehicle during the impact and was later found on top of a Mercedes involved in the crash.
The shocking discovery highlighted the force of the collision, which left multiple vehicles damaged along the busy roadway.
After recovery operations were completed, the bodies of all four victims were handed over to police before being transported to hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the cause of the crash and the sequence of events leading to the deadly collision.
The tragedy has once again raised concerns about road safety and the devastating consequences of major traffic accidents on Malaysian roads.
