Four people lost their lives when a medical transport plane crashed and burst into flames while attempting to land at Chinle Municipal Airport in the Navajo Nation, Arizona, on August 5.
The aircraft, a Beechcraft 300 operated by CSI Aviation, was en route from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to pick up a patient for medical transfer when the incident occurred. According to Navajo Nation Police Commander Emmett Yazzie, there were no patients on board at the time—only two pilots and two healthcare providers, all of whom were killed in the crash.
The plane reportedly missed the runway by approximately 275 meters and crashed at around 12:40pm local time, said Navajo Nation Police spokesperson Chrissy Largo. The aircraft, a small twin-propeller model, was part of an air ambulance operation servicing patients in eastern Arizona.
The cause of the crash remains unknown. Investigations are underway by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
