Four Men Fined RM1,000 Each Over Viral Temple Brawl In Ampang

Date:

Four young men aged between 18 and 20 were each fined RM1,000 by the Magistrates’ Court on Friday after pleading guilty to taking part in a brawl at a temple in Ampang that went viral on social media.

Magistrate Tiong Wen Wen imposed the maximum fine on Foo Je Kit, 19, Alvin Hw Jun Mun, 19, Yeo Ji Kang, 18, and Lai Jian Lung, 20.

The court also ordered each of them to serve one month in prison if they failed to pay the fine.

According to the charge, the four men had jointly committed an affray at a public place, namely a temple along Jalan Merdeka in Kampung Baru Ampang, at 12.01am on Oct 19.

They were charged under Section 159 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 160 of the same law, which provides for a maximum jail term of four months, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aizudin Radthuan urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence as a lesson to the accused, citing the public interest.

However, all four men appealed for lighter fines, citing their young ages and lack of permanent employment.

Earlier, Kosmo! reported that 13 men, including teenagers, had been arrested over a suspected clash between two groups at the temple along Jalan Merdeka in Kampung Baru Ampang.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid said police had detected a video of the incident circulating on social media.
