Four men, including a Singaporean, have been arrested after allegedly obstructing traffic police officers while they were carrying out their duties by the roadside before the incident continued towards the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) here on Sunday.
Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei said the suspects, aged between 25 and 46, were arrested between 12.15am and 1.45am on the same day following information received from members of the public.
A video showing a man allegedly obstructing a public servant during a confrontation had also gone viral on social media.
“Preliminary investigations found that the confrontation stemmed from a misunderstanding on the road involving three local men and a foreign national who was armed.
“The foreign suspect allegedly provoked the BSI traffic police officers while they were attempting to calm the men involved,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Police also seized a helmet and a knife believed to be connected to the incident.
Checks on the suspects’ backgrounds found that two of them had a total of 16 previous criminal and drug-related records.
All four suspects have been remanded for three days from Monday until tomorrow to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duties.
