Glass Panel Breaks Inside Moving LRT Train, Five Sustained Injuries

Date:

Five passengers were injured after a glass panel inside a Rapid KL Transit Aliran Ringan (LRT) train along the Kelana Jaya Line shattered in an incident near the Dang Wangi Station on Thursday evening.

In a broader context, public transport safety continues to remain a key concern as authorities review operational procedures and incident responses to ensure passenger protection during unexpected disruptions.

Rapid KL, in a statement, said the incident occurred at about 6.07pm while the train was departing the station.

It explained that the train’s automatic safety system was triggered while the train was in motion, causing an immediate stop as part of standard operational safety measures.

The activation of the system is a built-in safety feature designed to handle unforeseen situations promptly, the operator added.

Following the sudden stop, a standing passenger is believed to have lost balance, causing a water bottle to strike a side glass panel near the seating area.

The impact caused the panel to shatter, with fragments injuring several nearby passengers.

Two of the injured passengers were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for further treatment, while others received on-site care before continuing their journey.

Rapid KL said all other passengers were unharmed and were later transferred at Damai Station to continue their trips on subsequent trains.

As a precaution, the affected train has been taken out of service for full technical inspection, while investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.
