A premises suspected of being used as a Shia teaching centre at Lagoon Perdana Commercial Centre in Petaling Jaya was raided by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) yesterday.
The operation, carried out at 9.34pm, uncovered 226 foreign nationals, including children, inside the premises.
Selangor JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the raid was conducted following public information regarding the alleged spread of Shia teachings.
He said the case is being investigated under the Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment 1995, including provisions related to insulting religious authorities and spreading teachings contrary to established fatwa.
Authorities also examined offences involving the publication and distribution of materials believed to contradict Islamic law.
All 226 individuals found at the premises were foreign nationals from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, comprising men, women and children.
In addition, the Subang Jaya City Council issued notices under the Streets, Drainage and Buildings Act 1974 over unauthorised building modifications, giving the premises owner 14 days to comply with regulations.
Investigations are ongoing, while authorities have urged the public to report any related information to JAIS for further action.
