JIM Busts Foreign National Cluster In Kuala Lumpur Raid

Date:

A rundown squatter settlement along Jalan Klang Lama has been identified as one of the preferred housing areas for undocumented migrants, largely due to its low rental rates and relatively hidden location.

The situation is believed to be driven by cheap rent and the discreet setting of the area, making it an attractive spot for foreign nationals seeking accommodation.

However, the settlement was raided by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department (JIM) under Op Sapu conducted on Saturday.

The operation, which began at about 1.30am, involved inspections of 40 housing units in the area.

During the raid, some foreign nationals were seen attempting to flee and hide in an effort to avoid arrest by authorities.

It is understood that the area is equipped with basic facilities such as a surau, grocery shops, as well as water and electricity supply, and has also been linked to alleged online gambling activities.

JIM Kuala Lumpur said 78 individuals, including 30 women suspected of being undocumented migrants, were detained following checks on about 200 people during the operation.

Authorities stated that the arrests involved 71 Indonesians, six Myanmar nationals, and one Indian national, with further investigations being carried out under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
