A viral eight-second video allegedly showing a newborn kitten being placed inside a snake enclosure as food has sparked outrage online, with netizens demanding an explanation.
In the footage, a man holding a camera repeatedly asks another man sitting outside the enclosure, “What are you doing?” as the faint, high-pitched cries of a kitten can be heard in the background.
However, the video does not explain why the incident occurred, what happened at the scene or whether the kitten ultimately survived.
The clip has since circulated across multiple online platforms, prompting calls from netizens for the incident to be investigated.
Anger intensified after viewers noticed that one of the men in the footage was wearing a uniform belonging to a volunteer fire brigade in Johor.
Netizens questioned whether the alleged act was compatible with the responsibilities of volunteer firefighters, who are expected to help protect lives and respond to emergencies. Many called on the relevant authorities to clarify what had happened.
Some social media users reportedly flooded the volunteer fire brigade’s Facebook page with angry reactions, while others repeatedly questioned whether one of its members had used the kitten as food for a snake.
Sin Chew Daily said it had attempted to contact the relevant volunteer fire brigade’s person in charge for further details and the individual’s response, but had not received a reply by the time of publication.
