A young man suffered burns to his hands and legs after the four-wheel-drive vehicle he was driving caught fire along the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) near the Kerteh Toll Plaza exit this morning.
Kerteh Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer I Wan Mohd Razilan Wan Saleh said his team received an emergency call at 10.35am before seven firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
He said the 21-year-old victim was travelling from Muar, Johor to Kuala Terengganu with a friend to attend the RXZ Members 8.0 gathering when the incident occurred.
“Upon reaching the location, the vehicle suddenly caught fire, causing the driver to suffer burns on his hands and legs while attempting to escape and save himself,” he said.
Wan Mohd Razilan added that the passenger travelling with the victim did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
He said the Mitsubishi Triton involved was completely destroyed by the fire, with firefighters taking about 30 minutes to fully extinguish the blaze.
The victim was later sent to Kemaman Hospital for further medical treatment, while the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
