JPJ Seizes 43 Vehicles In Major Operation Targeting Foreign Drivers And Illegal Business Activities

Date:

A Bangladeshi worker’s attempt to deliver chickens using a modified motorcycle ended in enforcement action after he was stopped during the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) Foreign Driver Operation (Op PeWA) 3/2026 at Taman Rekreasi Kampung Tasik Tambahan on Thursday.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was found riding a motorcycle fitted with a specially modified structure designed to transport live poultry for commercial purposes.

Speaking after being stopped, he claimed he had previously worked as a contractor but had not received wages from his former employer. He said he is now employed at a market, earning RM1,800 a month, and was instructed by his employer to deliver a chicken supply to a shop before being detained by JPJ officers.

JPJ Kuala Lumpur Director Hamidi Adam said investigations confirmed that the rider possessed a valid driving licence. However, the motorcycle had been improperly used for commercial activities despite being registered as a private vehicle.

He explained that the vehicle’s private road tax classification did not permit it to be used for business purposes and that the motorcycle had been altered specifically to transport chickens for trade.

The motorcycle was among 43 vehicles seized during the operation, which began at approximately 7.30am following a week-long intelligence exercise prompted by public complaints.

According to Hamidi, authorities inspected 83 vehicles during the operation, focusing on offences involving driving licences, road tax compliance, insurance coverage and vehicle modifications.

Those stopped included foreign nationals from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan and India. A total of 199 summonses were issued for various traffic and technical offences.

Investigators also discovered that 12 of the seized vehicles belonged to local owners who had rented them out to foreign nationals for monthly fees ranging from RM400 to RM500.

The vehicles included four three-wheeled transporters and eight motorcycles used in businesses involving scrap metal collection, ice cream sales, snacks, bread, second-hand goods and chicken distribution.

Hamidi stressed that registered vehicle owners must not allow foreign nationals to use their vehicles without valid licences or misuse private vehicle permits for commercial activities.

He warned that strict action, including vehicle seizure, would be taken against owners found breaching regulations, while foreign nationals caught driving without the appropriate licences could face prosecution under the Road Transport Act 1987.
