Kelantan police recorded a 13% decline in drug-related cases during the first half of 2026, attributing the drop to more effective enforcement against drug trafficking and smuggling activities.
Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said 12,051 narcotics cases were recorded between January and June, compared with the same period last year.
Drug-related arrests also fell by 10%, with 13,182 suspects detained compared to 14,640 arrests during the corresponding period in 2025.
Despite the decline in cases and arrests, the value of drugs seized rose by 17%, reaching RM15.6 million, up from RM13.3 million in the same period last year.
“The increase in seizure value shows that our enforcement efforts are becoming more effective in curbing drug distribution and smuggling activities,” Mohd Yusoff said at a press conference after the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters monthly assembly on Tuesday.
He also revealed that Kelantan’s overall index crime dropped from 964 cases to 891 cases during the same six-month period, representing a decrease of 73 cases.
Violent crime fell from 246 cases to 202 cases, while property crime declined from 718 cases to 689 cases.
Mohd Yusoff said the improvements reflected the effectiveness of the police’s ongoing strategies and commitment to crime prevention.
However, he stressed that the declining crime figures should not lead to complacency.
“Our goal is not merely to reduce statistics, but to ensure public safety, well-being and strengthen public confidence in the Royal Malaysia Police,” he said.
