A police station chief in Kelantan has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in an investigation into allegations of accepting a bribe involving less than RM1,000.
According to a source, the officer, who holds the rank of Sergeant Major and is in his 40s, was detained by MACC officers at around 2pm on Sunday. Although the amount allegedly involved is relatively small, authorities are continuing with a full investigation as part of efforts to uphold integrity in the public service.
The arrest followed a report lodged recently by a local man, prompting the anti-graft agency to begin its investigation into the alleged offence.
The source said the MACC is expected to apply for a remand order against the officer on Monday to facilitate further investigations.
When contacted, Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed the arrest but said he had yet to receive complete details regarding the case.
“I was informed that the police station chief was detained to assist the MACC in its investigation into the alleged bribery.
“Let the MACC carry out its investigation,” he said.
The case remains under investigation, and no further details have been disclosed by the authorities at this stage.
