Sarawak continued to record the country’s highest air pollution levels this morning, with eight monitoring stations in the state registering unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am today.
Data from the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed Kuching and Serian recording the highest API readings nationwide at 168.
Samarahan followed at 163, while Sri Aman recorded 161 and Sibu 160. Sarikei registered 152, Bintulu 151 and Kapit 126.
Outside Sarawak, Seri Manjung in Perak recorded an API reading of 164, while Tanjung Malim stood at 118.
In Kuala Lumpur, Batu Muda recorded 156 and Cheras 155. Shah Alam in Selangor registered 156, followed by Petaling Jaya at 151, while Nilai in Negri Sembilan recorded 151.
Larkin in Johor recorded 123 and Tangkak 105, while Tawau in Sabah registered 122. Bukit Rambai in Melaka recorded 107.
Across the country, 37 monitoring stations recorded moderate air quality, while 10 stations reported good air quality.
Under the APIMS classification, API readings from zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings above 300 hazardous.
