Landslide, Flash Flood Hit Cameron Highlands, Road Temporarily Closed

Date:

A landslide along Section 1.4 of Jalan Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Tanah Rata forced the temporary closure of the road to all motorists on Friday afternoon.

The incident was reported at 4.50pm, prompting authorities to close the road to ensure public safety and allow earth-clearing works to be carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD) and YP Maintenance.

Cameron Highlands district police chief Superintendent Azri Ramli said authorities were closely monitoring the clearing operation and would reopen the road once it was deemed safe.

“The situation at the location is under control, with regular monitoring being carried out. The public is advised to avoid the road temporarily,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, a flash flood was reported at 4.53pm at Taman Perumahan Golden Hill in Brinchang, affecting three houses and seven vehicles.

Azri said no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

“Police personnel were deployed to the scene for further action and monitoring.

“Upon arrival, the situation was found to be under control and the floodwaters had begun to recede. The Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force were also informed for safety and monitoring purposes,” he said.

The public, particularly residents in high-risk areas, have been advised to remain vigilant amid changing weather conditions and follow instructions issued by the authorities.

Members of the public can contact the Cameron Highlands district police headquarters operations room at 05-491 5999 or any nearby police station for assistance or to channel information.
