A gambling syndicate operating an online betting network and mini casino from a luxury residential unit in Bukit Jalil has been busted following a police raid that led to the arrest of 15 individuals.
Cheras Deputy District Police Chief Superintendent Lim Chun How said the operation was carried out under Op Noda/Dadu by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (D7) of the Cheras District Police Headquarters on Saturday.
A total of 15 suspects, including three women aged between 21 and 44, were detained during the raid.
Police arrested 12 local men, two local women and one Vietnamese woman believed to be involved in the illegal gambling activities.
During the operation, authorities seized a range of items suspected to have been used for gambling activities, including a casino table, hundreds of gambling chips, playing cards, RM4,904 in cash, a laptop computer and a karaoke audio system.
Investigators also discovered four transparent plastic packets containing a white powder believed to be cocaine, weighing approximately 10.11 grams.
Further background checks revealed that one of the suspects was a wanted individual sought by police in connection with a drug-related investigation in Pulau Tikus, Penang.
Lim said the case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(b) of the Entertainment Act (Federal Territories) 1992 and Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
Additional investigations are being conducted under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
The raid highlights ongoing efforts by police to crack down on illegal gambling operations that are increasingly being concealed within residential properties to avoid detection.
