A young local couple has been arrested to assist investigations into the discovery of a newborn baby boy’s body inside a toilet at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) last week.
Cheras Deputy District Police Chief Superintendent Lim Chun How said the 21-year-old suspects were detained in Sepang by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (D9) of the Cheras District Police Headquarters.
Police launched an investigation after receiving information from TBS management regarding the discovery of an unconscious newborn baby inside a blue plastic bag in a women’s toilet on Level 3 of the transport terminal.
Preliminary investigations led authorities to identify and arrest the couple, who are currently unemployed.
According to Lim, both suspects admitted their involvement in the incident during initial questioning.
Investigators believe the female suspect gave birth to the baby inside the toilet before allegedly disposing of the newborn in a rubbish bin out of fear of being reprimanded by her family.
The shocking discovery sparked concern among members of the public and prompted an immediate police investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
The couple has been remanded for four days, from Saturday until Tuesday, to facilitate further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth by secretly disposing of a dead body.
Police said investigations are ongoing.
