A Malaysian man has lodged a police report after photos allegedly showing his wife breastfeeding their baby on public transport were circulated on social media without her permission.
According to Kosmo!, the man, who uses the username @amir.nafif on Threads, claimed several social media accounts had shared the photos while questioning his wife’s decision to breastfeed in a public place.
After discovering the posts, Amir said he contacted the individuals involved and gave them 24 hours to remove the content. He also warned that a police report would be made if the photos were not taken down.
He later claimed to have obtained information connected to one of the accounts and said he intended to pursue legal action against those responsible.
In an update posted on August 9, Amir said the posts had still not been removed. He also claimed his wife had developed a fever and experienced shivering after the photos were circulated online.
Amir subsequently confirmed that he had lodged a police report but said he could not disclose further details as the matter was now under investigation.
He added that he planned to approach the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) once its office reopened, while reiterating that he intended to pursue further legal action against the individuals involved.
The incident has since sparked widespread discussion online, with many users defending the mother and arguing that breastfeeding a hungry baby in public should not be treated as inappropriate.
Some users pointed out that babies need to be fed regardless of where their mothers are, while another noted that the woman had used a nursing cover while breastfeeding.
At the time of writing, there had been no reported response from the individuals accused of sharing the photos regarding the police report or Amir’s stated intention to take further action.
